First of its kind: ‘Women’s Technology Park’
Nandurbar is one of the largest tribal districts of Maharashtra. Tribal population has remained geographically isolated and deprived of modern amenities and knowledge. Dr. Hedgewar Seva Samiti (DHSS) has worked among these tribes of Satpuda Mountains in the district for over a decade. It runs more than 150 non-formal schools in remote villages and has organised Farmers’ Technology Transfer Clubs in nearly 200 villages. DHSS runs a Krishi Vigyan Kendra (Farm Science Centre) that is networked with Indian Council of Agricultural Research and is considered as one of the best in the country in taking Agro-technology to tribal and small farmers.
DHSS has inspired farmers to run small enterprises and has trained tribal women in operating small machines that are used for post-harvest processing. DHSS has identified that the women – though trained – cannot embark on a business, because they lack a hands-on training, an experience in running an agro-processing industry.
The ‘Women’s Technology Park’ is aimed at addressing this problem. The Park shall have training facilities and machines for hands-on training. Women shall have comfortable residence facility and can run a small business for a test period. This can enable them initiate similar businesses at their villages. This park is going to be the first of its kind: the first for tribal women, the first in Post-harvest technology, and the first in One-roof education for rural business training.
DHSS is registered under Societies Registration Act, 1860, Maharashtra/2439/Dhule and under the Mumbai Trust Act, 1950, F-2268/Dhule.
You can support DHSS
DHSS has a network in over 200 villages. Their farmer-centred activities have always involved women. Women’s Self-Help Groups are also inspired by this organisation. They have emphasised the vital role that women play in a farmer family. Women’s Technology Park is a going to a wide-impact institution not only in economic improvement of tribal women, but also in their social empowerment.
DHSS needs approx. Rs. 50 Lakhs for this project. You can contribute to raise this fund.
