Ensuring safe birth and Care for mothers

Mata Balak Utkarsh Pratishthan (MBUP) was born out of an attempt to salvage the women and children from the adversities, thrown up by socio-economic conditions, further corroded due to severe draught-like conditions in Sangola Taluka of Solapur district in Maharashtra. The educated women of Sangola town led by the town’s first woman doctor Dr. Sanjeevani Kelkar plunged into action and formed Mata Balak Utkarsh Pratishthan.

MBUP employed a multi thronged approach to address the problems faced by rural women. Since inception it worked in every possible area that could be used to reach and address the plight of these women. For example, it started pre-primary school, Self Help Groups, conducted myriad programs to create conducive environment on educational and cultural fronts.

Today, MBUP is primarily engaged in creating awareness, prevention of atrocities and provide care for distressed women in Sangola. The network of 257 Self-Help Groups organised by the MBUP is a strong backbone of empowerment activities in Sangola. MBUP has created a mechanism where these women are given shelter and other necessary help to come out of such precarious situation. In the course of its journey MBUP has realized health of the women as one of the key enablers for their uplift. In near future the focus of MBUP will stay on building effective health services delivery mechanism especially in the difficult-to-reach areas.

MBUP is registered under Societies Registration Act, 1860, Maharashtra/ 831
